Easy Venison Nachos Recipe

Difficulty Level: Very Basic
Cook Time: About 15 minutes

If you're a fan of nachos and love venison, this easy, quick recipe will become one of your go-tos! With just a few ingredients and a skillet, you’ll have a hearty, flavorful snack or meal on your plate in no time. Packed with protein and customizable toppings, these venison nachos are perfect for weeknights or game-day treats.

Ingredients:

- 1-1.5 pounds of ground venison
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2/3 to 3/4 cup of water
- 1-1.25 oz Crooked Bend Blitzens Taco Seasoning mix (or your favorite taco seasoning)
- Tortilla chips (choose your favorite brand or type)
- Cheese of your choice (cheddar, Monterey jack, or a Mexican blend works great)

Toppings:

We recommend these fresh and tasty toppings, but feel free to get creative with your favorites!

- Freshly chopped lettuce

- Fresh chopped tomatoes

- Fresh onions, diced

- Green, red, or orange peppers, chopped

- Black beans

- Corn (fresh or roasted)

- Avocado, sliced or cubed

- Sour cream or Greek yogurt

- Pickled jalapeños for a bit of spice

- Salsa or pico de gallo

- Fresh cilantro

- Sliced black olives

Instructions:

1. Preheat your skillet: Set your stove to medium-high heat and allow your skillet to warm up.

2. Melt the butter: Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the skillet. Once the butter has melted and started to bubble, you're ready to add the onions.

3. Caramelize the onions: Add the chopped onion to the skillet. You should hear a nice sizzle as the onions hit the butter. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking. Cook until the onions turn golden brown and translucent (this should take about 2-3 minutes).

4. Cook the venison: Add the ground venison to the skillet with the onions and butter. Stir occasionally, breaking the venison into smaller pieces as it cooks. Continue until the venison is fully browned.

5. Season it up: Once the venison is browned, sprinkle the Crooked Bend Blitzens Taco Seasoning (or your favorite seasoning) over the meat. Mix thoroughly to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

6. Add water and simmer: Pour in the water and stir well. Let the mixture simmer for about 2-3 minutes, or until the liquid reduces and the seasoning forms a thick, flavorful sauce that coats the meat.

7. Assemble the nachos: Spread a generous layer of your favorite tortilla chips on a large plate or in a shallow bowl. Spoon the seasoned venison mixture over the chips.

8. Add cheese and toppings: Sprinkle your favorite cheese over the hot venison. If you like melted cheese, you can pop the plate under the broiler for a minute or two until it gets bubbly. Then, top with any or all of the recommended toppings for extra flavor and texture.

9. Serve and enjoy: Serve immediately, while the chips are still crispy and the cheese is gooey. Dig in and enjoy!

Tips for Customizing Your Venison Nachos:

- Want a cheesy twist? Layer the chips, venison, and cheese in alternating layers and bake in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes for fully melted, gooey goodness.
- For extra crunch and freshness: Add fresh toppings like shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and chopped cilantro right before serving.
- Prefer spicier nachos? Add a bit of hot sauce, jalapeños, or mix some chili powder into your taco seasoning.
- Switch up the chips: Try using different types of tortilla chips, such as multigrain, blue corn, or even lime-flavored chips for added variety.
